I've never understood some peoples apprehension about the confessional. Maybe because I converted as an adult--I've always told myself that I'm going to get the confession I need. And it's true! Every single one. When I worked up the courage to have 1:1 in person spiritual direction around confession with a priest, it helped me to become close friends with him. Especially during covid, we would walk around and chit chat before going to a private spot and getting the sacrament done.
